What’s MOSSTURE?

What is Mosture?

Due to the moss art boom, a lot of people have started creating art using moss, such as moss terrariums and moss balls.
Among them, beginners in particular have been complaining about problems with mold and insects, and that humidity control is difficult and the color of the moss changes quickly.
We received many concerns such as, "Even when I try to make art out of it, it quickly loses its shape," and "I got interested in moss, but it's difficult to care for so I gave up."

In response to such requests, we began research before the founding of the association, with the desire to "develop a moss that will allow as many people as possible to enjoy moss art in a wide range of ways." The association was then established in December 2018, and the product was commercialized in April 2021.
We are currently preparing a mossture that can be used outdoors.

The main feature of Mosture is that you can enjoy the moist and humid feeling of live moss for a long time.
Of course, it won't lose its shape or change color, but what we want you to experience is its texture.
Its moist texture is just like natural moss.
It will be softer on humid days and a bit firmer on dry days.
Although it does not grow, it will fill your space and your heart as "breathing art."

POINT

  • It helps maintain the moisture, texture and color for a long period of time .

  • It does not discolor or change in texture due to the season or temperature, which are difficult to deal with when working with living moss (such as Sedum sativum, Lycium luteum, and Anodicum trichomes).

  • No watering required! There is no need for time-consuming maintenance such as changing the humidity and frequency of watering depending on the type of moss.

  • There is no risk of deformation due to moss growth, insect infestation, or mold growth .

  • It can be used for a variety of purposes, such as moss terrariums, wall-hanging moss artwork, and moss bonsai.

Moss has the ability to absorb moisture and nutrients from the air, and its cell walls have the ability to accumulate metals.
Years of research have shown that it has various effects, such as deodorizing and purifying pollutants.
There are even records that in ancient times, moss was used as a substitute for cotton wool, taking advantage of its antibacterial and antifungal properties.
When we conducted a deodorizing experiment using moss ture, the results showed that it could be expected to have the same deodorizing and purifying effects as live moss.

How Mosture can help

It can be used for greening projects in a variety of settings, including hotels and offices, large commercial facilities, and pavilions.
Mosture does not require any misting, watering, pruning, humidity control, or protection against insects or mold, so there are no costs involved and it is ideal for use in business situations.
At Japan Moss Art, we first ask about the image that matches your industry and the scenery you would like to recreate, and then we will create a custom-made piece based on consultations about what type of indoor greenery would be best, such as a moss wall (wall-hanging moss art) or decorating an entire wall with moss.
Furthermore, Mosture is a specially processed moss that does not die, so there is no risk of insect infestation or mold growth, and depending on the inspection conditions, there is hope that it will be used overseas in the future.

Since the finish of this variety is prone to variation depending on the pre-treatment and processing steps, we carefully select only the best quality ones.

*Our association uses moss sold at Moss Nikko, a specialist moss retailer, as well as moss harvested from approved forests.

Precautions for handling Mosture

  1. To prevent discoloration and deterioration, never mist or water the product .

  2. For indoor use only. Using it outdoors may cause discoloration and deterioration due to moisture.

  3. If it comes into contact with water or is rubbed hard, the color may transfer to your clothes or hands. If the color does transfer, it can be easily washed off with water.

  4. Dust may accumulate and make the color appear darker. If this bothers you, clean it off with a fine-bristled paint brush.

  5. It cannot be used in conjunction with live moss that requires misting.

  6. To prevent discoloration, store away from direct sunlight as much as possible.
