Makino Mitsunori

Western-style painter

Born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1959. Chairman of the Millennium Arts Board of Trustees, Honorary Member of the Royal Society of British Artists, Special Envoy for the Contribution of Japanese and Italian Arts, Special Envoy for the Mekong-Japan Friendship Arts, Visiting Professor of Chinese Calligraphy, Na Silapa (Face of Art) recognized by the Thai Dynasty as a Person of Cultural Merit in Siena and a Siena Art Heritage Asian Cultural Asset. Received the International Peace Medal from the Gandhi Memorial Museum, India.


Among all the Japanese artists, Hokusai was chosen by art professors from Europe and Asia.


In France, he is considered a successor to the Post-Impressionists such as Van Gogh, in Italy, his works are recognized and included in the Siena Art Heritage, the birthplace of the Renaissance, and in Spain, he has been selected by the national art appraiser as an artist to be remembered for future generations along with Picasso. In 2021, he received the Rama IX Art Award from the former King of Thailand.
